We’re adding another granola recipe to the collection on Fish Fingers for Tea. And this one is a-mazing. Buttery, sweet with golden syrup and highly adaptable. Think flapjack in granola form and you’re there. Who wouldn’t want that for breakfast? Or if you’re like me and not really a breakfast person, then a bowl of this is good at any time.

Flapjack granola made in a Tefal Actifry | Fish Fingers for Tea

We were sent an Actifry to try out just before Christmas. Have you seen them? They are the machine that can produce the most fantastic chips with just one spoon of oil. Rich had been dropping hints about getting one for months but I kept resisting, so when the email from Tefal dropped into my inbox I knew I would be in big trouble if I said no.

I could talk to you about the chips. They are fall off your chair good, they really are. But the Actifry is a really versatile bit of kit so I wanted to show you what else it could do (you can find out more of our thoughts about the Actifry underneath the recipe). We’ve been cooking veggies in there stir fry style and a risotto will be being tested out soon. I spotted that Nova over at Cherished by Me made a batch of granola in hers, something that I hadn’t considered so I decided to give it a whirl.

Super easy!

And a super tasty granola. I’ve been making a batch of this a week as it disappears at an alarming rate but as it’s simply a case of a bit of mixing and then letting the Actifry do the work I really don’t mind.

Toasted, crunchy golden syrup flavoured oats that are just as good solo as they are with a handful of dried fruit or a sliced banana. We’ve been having ours with milk or yoghurt but I’m keen to try them out as a base for overnight oats too. Izzy has been sprinkling a handful or two liberally over a bowl of ice cream too so you can see how versatile they are.

Go on. Make a batch and let me know what you think.

Flapjack granola

Yield: 1 300g batch

Super easy, moreish and versatile, this flapjack granola is easy to whip up in an Tefal Actifry.

Ingredients

  • 75g (about 5 tablespoons) golden syrup
  • 50g butter
  • 300g rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Melt the golden syrup and butter together slowly. You can do this either in a small saucepan on the hob or in the microwave. Stir to combine.
  2. Place the oats in a bowl and then pour in the butter and golden syrup mixture. Mix well, making sure that all the oats are coated.
  3. Carefully tip into the Actifry and cook for 12 – 15 minutes.
  4. Tip the granola onto a baking parchment lined baking tray and allow to cool for 20 minutes or so. Store in an airtight container.

So what did we think to the Actifry?

We have the family of 6 model and it is much bigger than I was expecting. Having said that though it is surprisingly light and it fits easily onto our shelves. It’s easy to clean (it’s dishwasher friendly) and I’ve been storing the spoon and cord inside to keep them safely tucked away.

You get a recipe booklet which can show you exactly how versatile it is. I was surprised at the range of recipes and even though I’m an oven baked risotto fan I’m really interested how one will turn out in there.

The chips. Oh. My. God. The chips are amazing. Seriously. They taste like a deep fried chip but there’s nothing greasy about them at all. Wedges too. We’ve cooked both homemade chips and frozen chips in there and both are fantastic.

It is on the noisy side. Kind of like a loud hairdryer but as tea basically looks after itself and I get to go and sit down with a cup of tea then I’m willing to overlook it and you don’t notice it after a while.

Disclosure: We received an Actifry for the purposes of review. We were not required to write a positive review and no further compensation has been received. All opinions remain my own.
